Creed (statement of belief) is the first pillar of Islam, ‘There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger’. This is the first statement of faith and anyone who can not recite this wholeheartedly is not considered a Muslim.
This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim’s complete acceptance of and total commitment to Islam. This testament is a foundation for all other beliefs and practices in Islam. Muslims must repeat the Shahadah in prayer, and non-Muslims wishing to convert to Islam are required to recite the creed.
